OK, you’re a technology worker and you’re good at it. Every now and then, you feel there must be more to life, but you’re not sure what.
Maybe your friends don’t understand you … or maybe you don’t have any friends…
Maybe your significant other doesn’t want to talk about your aspirations … or maybe you don’t have a significant other, and that’s your aspiration!
You’re looking for a promotion and don’t know how to go for it … or you just got promoted and it’s scared the *%@&* out of you!
I can help!
Some call Coaching “a paradigm of possibilities” since it’s all about identifying goals that get you excited and helping you realize them. As your coach, I will be your best friend, someone who can be curious about what you want, asking powerful questions to unlock your true potential.
The Coaches Training Institute (my alma mater) defines it as a powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness, and fulfillment. A coach is someone who helps you articulate your goals, define strategies and plans, holds a vision of you in full expression and success, and challenges you to achieve that vision. Thus you and your coach become powerful participants in a team that is committed to deepening your learning and forwarding the progress toward your goals.
Coaching is usually conducted by telephone on a weekly basis, but can be tailored to suit your schedule. You choose what you want to work on each week and you decide how much or how little work you do in between sessions. As your coach, I will make requests and challenges to help you to reach your goals. E-mail support is always available to you in between sessions.
My usual rate is $100.00 per 45-minute session, however, coaching packages can be structured to suit individual budget constraints. I am committed to making coaching available to anyone who wants to be coached and will negotiate rates when necessary.
Try before you buy! I offer a 45-minute trial coaching session to anyone who’s interested to see if we are a good “fit” before you commit to anything.
Coaching is not the same as therapy, and both can work hand in hand to create the strongest possible foundation for your life. Therapy’s focus begins in your life today and moves backwards through time to heal, understand, and “have closure” on troubling events, attitudes, or behaviors in the past. Although your coach will have an understanding of how your past has informed your life, coaching begins with your life today and moves forward, claiming the strengths, gifts, and insight you already possess, developing new abilities and greater accomplishment. Coaching supports you in letting go of old ideas and habits that are holding you back from experiencing the freedom and power you want in your life. Therapy is about healing the past; coaching is about creating a great life now and in the future. In short…
- Therapy is about healing; Coaching is about achievement
- Therapy is about understanding; Coaching is about action
- Therapy is about safety; Coaching is about momentum
- Therapy is about progress; Coaching is about performance
- Therapy is about protecting; Coaching is about attracting
- Therapy is about resolving; Coaching is about creating
- Therapy is about getting closure; Coaching is about creating new openings
- Therapy is about moving from dysfunctional to functional; Coaching is about moving from functional to extraordinary!
My preference is a three month minimum term, which gives us time to design the partnership, experience the results of coaching, and begin to make changes in your life. Most clients then continue for a year or longer. It is an individual choice and each client will make the choice that is right for them.
Coaching provides you with a supportive and non-judgmental space for you to envision and speak your goals and work out how to achieve them. You won’t be advised to act in a specific way, all the choices are yours, but you will be asked powerful and penetrating questions to encourage you to think differently, consider alternative perspectives, and to open up new opportunities.
I am the Geek Coach! My name is Robin Wiley and, over the last 40 years, I’ve held practically every job role in Information Technology there is, including operator, programmer, project manager, DBA, salesman, divisional manager, product specialist, network engineer, trainer, troubleshooter and architect. I’m currently employed by a major hardware/software manufacturer as a senior software specialist. I team with Type Insights to provide access to a variety of assessments.
I operate within the ethical standards set out by the International Coach Federation and by the Myers Briggs Foundation. I am committed to providing a professional service with a guarantee of confidentiality.
Co-Active Coaching is a unique, proactive alliance designed to forward and enhance the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness, and fulfillment. The client and the coach work together as equal partners to meet the needs of the client.
Co-Active Coaching is not about the coach’s expertise, opinions, or solutions. The coach’s expertise is strictly limited to the process of coaching. The coach’s job is to assist you to articulate your dreams, desires, and aspirations; help you clarify your mission, purpose, and goals; and support you in achieving your desired outcome.
The Co-Active Coaching model is based on the philosophy that clients are naturally creative, resourceful and whole, and completely capable of finding their own answers to whatever challenges they face. In Co-Active Coaching the client has the answers and the job of the coach is to listen and empower rather than inform and advise. Coaching is about discovering possibilities, getting beyond the “should,” stuck-points and distractions and creating a fulfilling life that is true for the client. Coaching is an opportunity to let go of limitations and stand in a place of creativity and possibility. I also believe that all parts of people’s lives—their careers, relationships, recreation, personal growth, and finances, for example—are interrelated and should be addressed as such. I coach the whole person.
The Four Cornerstones of Co-Active Coaching:
1. The client is naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. You can find your own answers. Nothing is wrong or broken. The coach does not have the answers, the coach has questions that create channels for your self-discovery.
2. Co-active coaching addresses the client’s whole life. Every choice you make brings you closer to, or further away from, a life that is fulfilling. Co-active Coaching addresses these three client principles: Fulfillment, Balance, and Focus.
3. The agenda comes from the client. The agenda of the coaching relationship comes from you, the client, not the coach. The coach “holds” your agenda and makes sure it does not get forgotten.
4. The relationship is a designed alliance. Power is granted to the relationship—not the coach. The coach and you work together to design the alliance that will meet your needs. You play a fundamental role in designing how you want to be coached. You learn that you are in control of the relationship and ultimately the changes that you make in your life.
